My son has a Nintendo DS (not lite) that the top screen only displays white light when a game is in.
Again, this is the original DS and not the lite. He has dropped it a couple
of times and both hinges are broken. l know that replacement housing can be
purchased. Just found that out today. He played it for a long time with
broken hinges and it worked fine with some good old redneck duct tape
holding the top and bottom parts closely together. The problem is...when a
DS game is inserted and the system turns on, the top screen does not show
any graphics. It is just a white screen or a screen with a bunch of little boxes, kind of like a sheet of graph paper. Is there something l can do to fix this? Do you think a ribbon cable has gone bad from where he played it with broken hinges? Or, maybe replace the screen? Thanks for any advice yall may have.
I'd guess the ribbon cable or connectors have gone bad from the
strain. If you use a search engine for ''gameboy ds parts'' you can find
lots of places that sell parts, cables, screens, two that hit the top of
my search list were:

http://modchipstore.com/Nintendo-DS-Lite-Parts-and-Repair-1-301.html But depending on how much you have to replace, might be cheaper to buy a new DS unit (or maybe a used one) from Ebay, etc. The top screen alone is $40-50 & that is half the price of a new unit. Repair also depends on ur skills with electronics.
